DMMC COURSES & WORKSHOPS
PROTEOMICS:
METHODS & APPLICATIONS
30 May - 13 Jun 2006; 1330-1700 weekly (Tuesdays)
Venue:
Lecture Theatre, UCD Conway Institute, University
College Dublin (location)
Online
application is closed
Online application period: 8 - 26 May 2006 (at 1200)
Application
for this course is open to researchers throughout Ireland.
The
wealth of genomic data now available for a wide variety of organisms
provides us with the opportunity to perform comprehensive protein
profiling studies of complex biological systems. Application of
the science of proteomics will result in new insights into cellular
functions in health and disease, and lead to the discovery of new
diagnostic agents and therapeutic targets. This course is designed
to give an overview of the main workflows that are currently being
used for protein profiling:
1) two-dimensional gel electrophoresis
2) liquid chromatography coupled either on- or off-line
to mass spectrometry
3) protein and antibody micro-arrays
The
applications of these complementary approaches to biomedical research
will be discussed. The course is designed to equip participants
with the level of knowledge required to assess the potential applicability
of proteomics to their research.
