DMMC COURSES & WORKSHOPS
DRUG
DESIGN: PRINCIPLES & TECHNIQUES
10, 11, 20 & 21 April 2006 (1330-1700 on 10, 11 &
20 April; 0930-1300 on 21 April)
Venue: Albert
Lecture Theatre, The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (location)
Online
application is closed
Online application period: 27 Feb - 27 Mar 2006
Application
for this course is open to postgraduate
students and staff at RCSI, UCD, TCD and affiliated hospitals. Those
interested in attending who are based outside these institutions
should contact education@dmmc.ie
before applying online.
This
course is designed to give clinicians and researchers from the life,
chemical and physical sciences a broad overview of the concepts,
strategies and research techniques used in drug discovery. Basic
understanding of molecular structures is assumed, but you should
not need prior knowledge of the models and techniques covered in
the course.
The
objective for postgraduate teaching is to give students an overview
and illustrations of how proteins and other biologically active
molecules, targeted by or identified in laboratory research (in
silico or in vitro), can be studied to develop chemical
agents mimicking or interacting with them. This process can ultimately
lead to the development of new therapeutic candidates. We recommend
that postgraduate students attend the whole course (DMMC Course
Attendance Certificates are only provided for complete attendance).
