Expression microarray experiments generate large amounts of data, the analysis and interpretation of which is not trivial. In this one-day course, lectures covering important considerations in normalisation, analysis and interpretation of microarray data are followed by a hands-on practical workshop. The practical workshop utilises Bioconductor microarray data analysis software, part of the open source R statistical package, to highlight the principles of good analysis. We recognise that course participants may be using various commercial and non-commercial software packages to analyse their microarray data, but in the interests of time and clarity we have selected Bioconductor as the hands-on teaching tool during this course. Because Bioconductor is freely available (http://www.bioconductor.org) it can also be used by all participants for further study after the course. The principles covered in the practical tutorials will be applicable when using any software. The day concludes with a review of the various microarray data analysis software packages available. Please note, a separate DMMC Course on Microarray Experimental Design runs in April 2007.

The whole course (morning lecture and afternoon hands-on sessions) can accommodate a maximum of 45 attendees.
