DMMC Course: TECHNIQUES & STRATEGIES IN MOLECULAR MEDICINE
1530-1610 Tuesday 7 December 2004. Albert Lecture Theatre, RCSI
Cytogenetics and genomic microarrays Dr Sean Ennis, UCD/NCMG
This lecture will cover the basics of cytogenetics and genomic microarrays. Emphasis will be placed on an overview of cytogenetics, related disease states caused by numerical and structural chromosome abnormalities, and cell or tissue types used to perform these studies. Molecular cytogenetics will include: Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization (FISH), Fibre-FISH, Flow Karyotype with an emphasis on genomic microarrays. Finally, technical issues associated with both current and new developments in genomic microarrays will be discussed, together with their likely impact on the field of cytogenetics and research.
