Instructor Biography: Dr Mark W. Leonard (Wyeth BioPharma)
Dr Leonard received his BSc in Biochemistry and his PhD in Molecular Biology (in the lab of Dr Roger Patient) from King’s College, London. He was a Leukemia Society of America Fellow in Professor Doug Engel’s lab in the Department of Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, where he was involved in the cloning and characterization of the GATA transcription factor family. For the past 13 years Mark has worked in Process Development at Wyeth BioPharma (formerly Genetics Institute), with responsibility for various aspects of cell line development, characterization and process validation in support of a number of product regulatory filings. Currently, he is Director of Gene Expression Technologies in the Drug Substance Development organization, where, among other things, he heads a cross-functional team providing manufacturing readiness support to Research project teams to help ensure that the selected product molecular entity is compatible with the anticipated clinical/commercial dose, material needs and intended route of administration.
