Instructor Biography: Dr Brendan Hughes (Wyeth BioPharma)

Brendan Hughes is Director of Development at the Wyeth facility at Grange Castle in Dublin. Brendan is responsible for process and analytical development, technology transfer and support to manufacturing. Brendan obtained his BSc in Biochemistry and PhD from the National University of Ireland at NUI Galway. Brendan carried out post-doctoral research at the Institute of Virology in Oxford as part of the AIDS directed program between 1989 and 1991. Brendan joined the biotech R&D division of Wellcome in Beckenham in Kent in 1991 where he worked on the development of a range of proteins as well as recombinant viruses and DNA vaccines. He joined Wyeth in 2001 and spent two years with the Wyeth BioPharma Development team in Andover Massachusetts before returning to Ireland in 2003 to assist with the start-up of the Grange Castle facility.
